Europe Day 2018

9 May 2018,

We have a ‘second vocation’: we are people of dialogue, of communion, of relationship, of friendship, of unity. Only by building on fraternal relationships will Europe find solutions to its historical challenges. We want to discover possible synergies with the Feast of the Birth of Europe, taking the opportunity to set our own values in motion.

On or around 9 May, festivals, prayers, cultural evenings, round tables, etc. are organised in various European countries to give space and voice to a new way of life: ‘TOGETHER FOR…’. It is with great variety and colourful diversity that Togetherness is embodied in the various nations, languages and cultures!

Our charisms bind us across nations, ethnicities, borders and Churches. Our fraternity in Christ and with people of goodwill weaves the web of a Europe ‘House of nations, family of peoples’.

9 May could first and foremost be our feast day: the feast of those people who, by living according to the Gospel, nurture and strengthen the culture of Togetherness by working together in their cities. Let us live, let us highlight, let us share our culture with others!

May 9th is "Europe Day". What comes to mind when you hear this date? How would you like this day to be celebrated by Europeans? I see this day as an opportunity for European countries to dare to start transnational actions. We don’t need an elaborate programme, but...
