On 14.11.2020, the annual meeting of the took placeFriends of ‘Together for Europe. or a whole day – online, because of the Pandemic. Around 300 people participated from Portugal to Ukraine to Russia, from Northern Ireland to Greece. Fourteen of the 40 or so Movements and Communities most committed to the group of Friends had put together a varied mosaic of their experiences in Western and Eastern Europe, through films, photos and live presentations.
“Today, we are at the Areopagus, from where we can give people courage!” one participant commented in the morning.
various Movements shared their experience of how their charisms can respond with creativity and solidarity to the challenges of the pandemic. “The Covid has strengthened our unity” – “It is as if today we were rewriting the Acts of the Apostles” – “The new form of the Church is lived friendship”. This was how some of those present expressed themselves on what they had experienced.
Often very personal exchanges were then shared in more than 40 breakout groups.This highlighted the fact that personal relationships between the participants were more important than ever. The 2020 online meeting came to a close with a solemn prayer. Online – yet in a very real way – participants from all over Europe felt God’s presence and together asked for strength and confidence to be ever more signs of hope and help for humanity.
